PROGAM OVERVIEW
Farm City Detroit is a proud collaborator with the Michigan State University (MSU) Extension Master Gardener Program. Our nonprofit organization serves as an approved platform for those seeking to complete volunteer hours required for both initial qualification and recertification in the MSU Extension Master Gardener Program. This program provides horticulture education and fostering leaders who contribute positively to their communities through sustainable gardening practices.
To get started with us, it's essential that individuals first complete the MSU Extension Master Gardener Program's initial certification process. For more information on the initial certification process and to begin your journey, visit the MSU Extension Master Gardener Program website.
Once you've obtained your initial MSU Extension Master Gardener certification, Farm City Detroit offers a variety of opportunities to fulfill the 40 hours of volunteer service required within the first year of completing your onboarding. Led by Extension Master Gardener Maria Largacha, these activities not only help you to achieve certification but also allow you to contribute meaningfully to our community project.
For those seeking annual recertification, the MSU Extension Master Gardener Program requires the completion of at least 20 hours of community service and 10 hours of additional horticulture training each year. Our mission closely mirrors the goals of the MSU Extension Master Gardener Program, which include promoting environmentally responsible gardening, enhancing food security, and uplifting the quality of life within our communities.
By partnering with Farm City Detroit, you not only meet your program requirements but also join a community dedicated to gardening, education, and service. We are excited to welcome you aboard and collaborate in making a significant impact in our community through the power of gardening.
